At Pacific Flow Control, we specialize in keeping critical infrastructure operational, even during maintenance or upgrades. Recently, we completed a challenging and highly technical project: a double 36” (900mm) line stop on a transmission water main in Surrey, BC, part of the Greater Vancouver Area. This project showcases our expertise in maintaining essential services while enabling critical repairs or modifications.

Seamless Isolation and Bypassing

When shutting down critical infrastructure is impossible or impractical, Pacific Flow Control offers innovative solutions. For this project, we isolated a transmission water line on both sides and installed a high-pressure bypass using 24” (600mm) carbon steel piping rated to a maximum pressure of 285 PSI. This approach ensured uninterrupted water service downstream while critical work was carried out.

Engineered Solutions with Weld-On Line Stop Fittings

To achieve the highest quality results, we utilized weld-on line stop fittings in accordance with CSA Z662-19 In-Service Welding standards. Our engineered welding procedures are designed to deliver robust and reliable results, ensuring the structural integrity of your infrastructure. The JCM 440 T16FB sleeves used for this project are built to AWWA M11 requirements and come with engineered stamps and M11 calculations.

High-Quality Materials for Long-Term Performance

For added corrosion protection, the JCM 440 T16FB line stop fittings feature an NSF epoxy coating. Here are some key specifications for the fittings:

  • Line Stop Plug: Ductile Iron per ASTM A536

  • Plug O-Ring: Nitrile (NBR, Buna-N) Rubber, temperature range -40°F to 180°F (-40°C to 82°C)

  • Blind Flange: 150#, ASTM A36 Carbon Steel, Epoxy Coated

  • Blind Flange Gasket: Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR), suitable for water, salt solutions, mild acids, and bases, with a temperature range from -40°F to 150°F (-40°C to 65°C), maximum intermittent 180°F (82°C)

  • Push Plug/Pin Hardware: SAE Grade 8

The JCM 440 Line Stop Sleeve family is the top choice for contractors due to its advanced design, high-quality materials, and adaptability to various field applications. These sleeves are available in carbon steel and stainless steel (304 & 316) construction and are compatible with line stop machinery rated up to 250 PSI.

Unmatched Expertise in Infrastructure Solutions

With over 45 years of experience, Pacific Flow Control is Canada’s industry leader in:

Cost Savings and Risk Mitigation

By implementing bypass piping to keep infrastructure live, we save our clients significant costs, often amounting to hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. Avoiding outages eliminates the need for:

  • Costly and time-consuming system drain-downs

  • Issuing public notices

  • Managing water quality risks

  • Bypass pumping and network rerouting

  • Risking non-redundancy and flow reversal

  • Loss of production or revenue

  • Negative publicity from water restrictions or shutdowns
